Swimlanes & grouping
Open Configure › Swimlanes to choose how work is grouped on the Board, List and Timeline by default.
Default group
Section titled “Default group”Pick the grouping everyone sees when they open the Task Hub:
| Group by | Notes |
|---|---|
| None | One lane, with no grouping |
| Assignee | One lane per person, plus Unassigned |
| Epic | One lane per epic, plus No Epic |
| Priority, Work item type, Component/s, Space | One lane per value |
| Subtask | Parents with their subtasks |
| Customer request type | JSM spaces only |
| Other fields | Any single-select, user or label-style custom field |
| JQL | Lanes defined by your own JQL queries (see below) |
Users can still switch grouping for themselves with Group by in the toolbar. This only changes their own view.
JQL swimlanes
Section titled “JQL swimlanes”Create lanes from JQL queries, for example:
| Swimlane | JQL |
|---|---|
| Expedite | priority = Highest OR labels = hotfix |
| This sprint | sprint in openSprints() |
| None | (automatic: anything that matches no lane) |
A work item appears in the first lane whose query it matches. Drag lanes to change their order.
Custom groups (nested)
Section titled “Custom groups (nested)”A custom group stacks several grouping levels, from outer to nested, for example Epic → Assignee or Space → Priority. Select Add Custom Group, name it, then use Add hierarchy level to build the levels. Custom groups appear in the Group by menu for everyone.
